Special Education: A parent's guide to navigating IEPs

Help for parents!

Presenter Alison Morse, led parents through a workshop explaining and discussing the new template for Individual Education Plans (IEPs). She explained that the role for parents in the process has changed, too.

Topics covered included:

  • What ways can parents best advocate for their children through the identification process?
  • What special challenges do newcomer parents face?
  • What do parents need to prepare?

About Alison

She is the Provincial Co-ordinator of the Ontario Association for Families of Children with Communication Disorders. She delivers parent education workshops, prepares newsletters and position papers, organizes workshops and conferences and supports a network of volunteer chapters. Alison has been a Special Education Advisory Committee representative, and sits on the Minister's Advisory Council on Special Education representing Physical Disability.
